Step 15: Let it Out

Don’t be ashamed to weep; ‘tis right to grieve. Tears are only water, and flowers, trees, and fruit cannot grow without water.
— Brian Jacques, Taggerung

We're all trying to find our place in the world and unfortunately it's not an easy process. Stress comes from everywhere and if you're like me, you're realizing that it never stops. Sometimes you get overloaded and that's normal! But how we deal with stress isn't always the healthiest. If you find yourself bottling up your emotions, you're in danger.

Crying, yelling into a pillow or simply allowing yourself to feel the sadness is sometimes the healthiest thing you need. Imagine that your emotions are the contents of a soda and life keeps shaking you up. When you let those emotions fester you're delaying the inevitable. Even when you set yourself upright you're still dealing with unreleased pressure. That's why you're throwing plates at your significant other's head when they said you aren't the best cook. That comment isn't what's really bothering you. But it all comes up leaving a big mess for you to clean up.

There's way too often a time when I find myself in public trying to choke down tears because something small triggered all of my big issues. Even though I know that I should express my frustration or sadness or annoyance, I have trouble doing it. Even if I don't cry, I find someone to vent to. My close friends give me a shoulder to lean on and a different perspective I wouldn't have thought of.

And don't just take my word for this. Check out the links below to get more tips to let it out. (There's even a WikiHow on the subject.)
