Step 14: Stay In Your Lane
Anyone else hop on social media some days, look at certain people shining and you start feeling a little (or a lot) jelly of their lives? Raise your hand. Don't be shy. Mine is right up there with yours. It doesn't have to be the same things that make you jealous either. Sometimes it's their seemingly perfect bodies. Or their bouncy hair. Or their advancing careers. Or even their great relationships with everyone.
We don't really know what goes on in these people's lives. That's part of the reason why we follow them on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Snapchat, etc. We want to know the secret formula like we're evil geniuses with a sinister plot. That's how we look when we get jealous. Seething, green monster ready to devour our better off peers.
I have to catch myself all the time. My thing is the idea of "slim thick". Those women with small waists, big breasts and bigger behinds. Somehow they managed to keep their tummies tiny while still being voluptuous. They leave me sitting in my house silently resenting my stomach for its presence. "Why can't my body be like theirs? Why can't my hair look like that? Why can't I be further in my career?"
It's because you have your own lane. Right now, you need to look like this and sound like this and be in this place. Spreading negativity their way won't make you or your lane any different. Instead on posting a nasty comment under their pictures or rolling your eyes every time these people post anything, use their influence on you as motivation to be better.
