Step 22: Stop Judging

While you judge me by my outward appearance I am silently doing the same to you, even though there’s a ninety-percent chance that in both cases our assumptions are wrong.
— Richelle E. Goodrich, Smile Anyway

Full disclosure: I judge. You judge. We all judge. Sometimes judgment is a good thing. Being able to discern what's right and wrong for you is an important skill. As many activities and opportunities there are out in this crazy world, everything isn't supposed to get a 'Yes'. And while you're making that decision, here comes someone peeking over your shoulder talking about "Actually, you shouldn't do that because..."

If you don't get the fuck...

If no one asked for your opinion on their personal lives, please don't give it out. It's perfectly OK to stay silent in this instance. The person you gave your perceived golden nugget is holding other information they probably didn't disclose to you. When they take all the information and emotions that you don't have access to, your quick judgment doesn't make sense.

Judgment, unlike assuming, makes an ass out of you. Every time you make a snide comment about someone's relationship when you don't have one of their vice like you aren't slothful, you are alienating yourself. And most likely are wrong! You don't know what works for other people. They might like looking/acting/sounding the way they do. So the lesson for today is to let people live. And maybe try living your own life.
